Capture, review, preserve
Keep the original recording available as analysis and playback regions evolve.

Regions are not replacement recordings
A sustained sample or a loop can be defined as a region of an original take. Keeping that relation allows another researcher to inspect the surrounding signal and revisit an editing decision.
Preservation and playback serve different needs
A convenient playback package may contain only the assets needed by one application. A preservation release must also retain the information required to understand the selection and its provenance. VAO separates semantic release identity from the choice of carrier.
