Events & exchange

Conferences, demonstrations and discussion are opportunities to test the research in different contexts.

3D Printing and Musical Heritage · 2024

The Royal College of Music conference programme includes Dominik Ukolov’s contribution “Multimodal Virtual Enhancement of 3D Printed Musical Instruments”, exploring mixed-reality access to physical reproductions.

The research question behind the contribution

The conference abstract considers mixed-reality textures and interaction tracking on a physical, 3D-printed instrument. The printed object provides a tactile point of reference while digital layers make further instrument information accessible. This is one route into the broader MODAVIS question of how material contact, documentation and virtual experience can be connected.

That contribution should be read at the scale of its stated investigation. A conference abstract documents a topic and proposal; it does not by itself establish the results of a comparative listening study or a general demonstration of historical authenticity.

Paths for a research conversation

FormatPossible focus
Instrument or collection discussionWhat evidence is needed to describe a configuration or prepare a reusable capture?
Technical walkthroughHow do a manifest, exact resources and a compatible client work together?
Methods seminarWhere do source criticism, normalization, modelling and review meet?
Demonstration discussionWhat does an interactive experience reveal, and which claims remain outside its scope?

These are suggested starting points for an enquiry, not advertised upcoming events. A useful demonstration can begin with one fixed resource and a clear question, then follow its evidence through to the interface. Describing the intended audience and available setup makes it easier to choose a meaningful example and distinguish public materials from resources with restricted access.
