This archive brings together the 41 dated entries published on the previous MODAVIS presentations page. It includes project presentations and earlier activities in digital organologyOrganologyThe study of musical instruments, including their construction, histories, use and relationships. MODAVIS brings documentary, material and digital evidence into that inquiry.Work through the Cuntz example →, music and performance. 18 March 2024 · 3D Printing and Musical Heritage
The Royal College of Music conference programme includes Dominik Ukolov’s contribution “Multimodal Virtual Enhancement of 3D Printed Musical Instruments”, exploring mixed-reality access to physical reproductions.
The research question behind the contribution
The conference abstract considers mixed-reality textures and interaction tracking on a physical, 3D-printed instrument. The printed object provides a tactile point of reference while digital layers make further instrument information accessible. This is one route into the broader MODAVIS question of how material contact, documentation and virtual experience can be connected.
That contribution should be read at the scale of its stated investigation. A conference abstract documents a topic and proposal; it does not by itself establish the results of a comparative listening study or a general demonstration of historical authenticity.
11 November 2022 · Cultural Heritage and New Technologies
At the 27th CHNT conference in Vienna, the previous MODAVIS website listed “Multimodal Digitization Concepts for Acoustic Cultural Heritages. Using Photogrammetric Models for the Preservation and AuralizationAuralizationMaking an acoustic situation audible through a defined rendering or modelling process. The listening result depends on source, propagation and receiver assumptions.Work through the Cuntz example → of Historical Acoustical Spaces”. The conference ran from 10 to 12 November 2022 at Vienna City Hall; the project entry gives 11 November for the contribution.
The announced contribution belonged to the session “Cultural Heritage and the Metaverse: Linking the Cyber and the Physical to protect and share Cultural Heritage”, chaired by Lorenzo Ceccon. It proposed using neural networks to identify materials, textures and shapes in photogrammetric models and map absorption coefficients for acoustic simulation. The downloadable v0 short-paper preview records that proposal, rather than a later validated implementation.
10 June 2022 · AMIS Annual Meeting, Calgary
Dominik Ukolov presented “Historical Instruments in Virtual Acoustic Environments. A Framework for the Generation of Interactive Virtual Acoustic Objects and Multimodal Organological Datasets” at Studio Bell, home of Canada’s National Music Centre. The presentations archive dates the contribution to 10 June; the AMIS meeting ran from 8 to 11 June 2022.
The project report describes the presentation as an early exchange about Virtual Acoustic Objects and organological datasets. AMIS subsequently named Ukolov as one of the two recipients of the 2022 Frederick R. Selch Award. The National Music Centre hosts the full presentation recording.

| Methods seminar | Where do source criticism, normalization, modelling and review meet? |
| Demonstration discussion | What does an interactive experience reveal, and which claims remain outside its scope? |
